The Rational Religionist must be prepared to live without Certainties.

 

Conventional metaphysicists can take great comfort in what they Know; even if 50, 80, 99 percent of the rest of the world can see that it is nonsense.

              

               (We see other people's nonsense quite clearly..  Our own is obscured by a galactic cloud of invested interest.)

 

Since most people live out their lives without having to confront the objective errors in what they Know, their Knowledge serves them just fine.

 

The Rational Religionist of course takes refuge in exactly the same self-delusion by admitting to herself up front that most of the actual universe is probably unknowable and that it doesn't matter all that much. 

 

As long as we Know what we are doing in the here and now.
